Easter Sunrise Service
Our Easter Sunrise service in Donaldson Amphitheatre early that morning recalled one of the great Easter stories. It was about a famous encounter and conversation that took place during a seven mile walk to a small village west of Jerusalem. Two people, deep in despondent conversation, are reflecting on the events of the previous few days. A third person joins them supposedly clueless to all that had been happening. Before the first two people knew it, they were getting one of the most powerful history lessons ever presented by the One who knew it best. As their walk concluded late that day, they sat down to eat something. You can imagine the huge surprise when the first two people recognized the Risen Christ after bread was broken. They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:32) Cleopas and his friend immediately returned to Jerusalem to share the Good News and to testify that Christ had risen.
Today we celebrate this milestone event that took place over 2000 years ago. We pray that your heart “burns” to be a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ as you have accepted His grace and mercy for the forgiveness of your sins. What a victory over sin and death and the rich celebration of life with Jesus!
